The Family Visits category of travel stipulates that U.S. citizens are allowed to declare this category to visit "close relatives," defined as: "any person means any individual related to that person by blood, marriage, or adoption who is no more than three generations removed from that person or from a common ancestor with that person."

The rule also stipulates that " persons traveling with them who share a common dwelling as a family with them" also qualify for the Family Visits travel category.
